Lenovo Flex 5 – Model # 81X20005US Review

The Lenovo IdeaPad Flex5 14 81x20005us is a powerful laptop. There are not many choices when it comes to convertible 2-in-1 laptops if your goal is high performance at an affordable price. This 2-in-1 convertible laptop has better computing performance than most competitors, which can cost twice as much. The laptop has good connectivity options and a well-constructed chassis. It also features a comfortable keyboard. Although the Flex 5’s display of 14 inches could be brighter this laptop is still an outstanding mainstream laptop and a screaming-good deal. Should you purchase the Lenovo 5 81X20005US Will it be able to perform demanding tasks well? We are here to answer all of these questions and more.

Flex 5’s 360° hinge is much more flexible than traditional clamshell laptops. If you fold the hinge beyond 180°, the notebook can be used as a tablet. It’s great to have both your laptop and tablet on one machine. But only as long as they are useful. The model was launched in the fourth quarter, May 2020. It quickly became one of the fastest laptops to sell on Amazon. This should speak volumes about the excitement surrounding its release. It offers 2 in 1 functionality, battery life, portability, as well as a very affordable price.

Design Of Lenovo Flex 5 81X20005US

You can’t sell a top-selling convertible if it doesn’t deliver on the design. We are glad that Lenovo is on board. Although the design for the Lenovo Flex 5 (81X20005US), is not groundbreaking, it hits the mark just right. Yes, the convertible is and not made of metal. However, the build is very solid, just like we’ve come used to from Lenovo laptops. The hinge is made of steel. You can see that it’s very simple to open the laptop by using one hand. Screen is decent, it’s not spectacular. Color accuracy is satisfactory. If you are a photographer & color accuracy matters to you, then it is not worthy. It has a 14.0″ FHD Touch Display (1920×1080).

Lenovo Flex 5 14 2-in-1

It’s bright enough, but we wouldn’t recommend it if it’s going to be used outside constantly as it has no anti-reflective coated. The IPS display offers 178 degree viewing angles. The keyboard is comfortable. Big enough keys, enough travel distance that typing doesn’t feel like it’s on a screen. It has backlit that can be used at night with two intensities. It’s also a very portable device. It weighs just over 3.6 pounds and measures 0.8 inches thick. We call it “backpack-ready”. The IPS technology of this display ensures that it has good viewing angles, which is a big plus for a smaller screen. This display has the advantage of allowing you to use a pen. You can write on it or draw on it. This stylus is included with the laptop, unlike the previous versions that you had to buy separately.

Display

The panel, 1920 x 1080 pixels, made it easy to see the finer details of the 4K film, such as tiny floating bubbles in Arctic, thanks to its super clear resolution. The touchscreen is responsive and accurate in tracking touch inputs. It also registers swipe-in gestures. You won’t notice any latency while drawing in MS Paint, Fresh Pain, or browsing the web in Chrome browser. However, Paint 3D will slow down. The IPS 250 nits screen provides enough brightness and the Lenovo Digital Pen allows you to interact with the machine.

Connectivity

The machine’s power button, HDMI output, USB Type-C port and a headphone socket are located on the left. The two USB 3.0 ports, security slot, and SD reader were placed on the right. The fingerprint reader is located under the keyboard’s bottom right corner. The trackpad below the keyboard is reliable and comfortable. It’s just as sturdy as the Apple MacBook Pro13, but it’s a little stiffer and may not be always accurate. We also have a dual band WiFi connectivity (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), as well as Bluetooth support. The webcam is also quite good. Our favorite feature is the mechanical cover that allows you to cover your webcam without needing to use duck tape.

Performance Of Lenovo Flex 5 81X20005US

The new Lenovo Flex 5 81X20005US is a more powerful convertible than most. This convertible is designed for the busy professional. AMD Ryzen5 4500U is a powerful processor that runs at 2.3GHz base speed, and can reach 4.1GHz when asked by the most demanding users. If you are a power-user, however, you won’t reach the 4.1GHz speed. Along with the processor, we have an impressive 16 GB HTML4 RAM.

This clocks in at a remarkable 3200MHz. This is quite a fast speed considering most laptops only offer a speed of 2666MHz. If all of this wasn’t enough to convince that the convertible is your best friend, we also have a huge 256GB SSD unit. You are most likely to have a laptop that has an HDD. It is a good idea to renew your laptop every three to four years. Once you try out an SSD laptop, there’s no turning back.

The Ryzen 5 4500U mobile CPU is designed for lightweight and thin laptops. The processor is composed of six cores, six threads, and runs at a base speed of 2.3GHz with a maximum boost speed of 4.05GHz. Although the 4500U is designed for ultra-thin laptops, it still beats the Core i7-1065G, Core i5-10300H and certainly the Core i5-10300H. Here are benchmarks for the Ryzen 5 4500U. The Flex 5 81X20005US is not expected to be able to play AAA games well. This laptop is not designed for gaming. Light gaming may work, but it will not be able to handle graphically demanding games. The Flex 5 does not have a dedicated graphic card. Luckily, the Flex 5 has the New AMD Radeon RX Vega6 Integrated graphics. It is based on the Vega architecture. The GPU has 6 CUs (= 384 of the 704 shaders) and a clock speed of up to 1.500 MH.

Battery Performance

It is worth noting that although the laptop claims to last 10 hours, it can be used for 7+ hours mixed usage. The Lenovo 52.5Wh lithium-ion battery pack powered this system. It can provide approximately 7-8 hours of playback and regular operation. However, 7 hours is quite reasonable considering the specifications and the cost of the device. You can use the laptop’s battery for CPU-intensive tasks like gaming but it will only last between 4 and 5 hours.

Conclusion

This model is just what we needed in a laptop. It has a beautiful and functional design. The specs are great for fast charging and the battery lasts a long time. Lenovo’s IdeaPad Flex 5 14 is a 2-in-1 convertible that offers a remarkable combination of performance and value thanks to its AMD Ryzen processor.

Awesome

The Flex 5 is a great device at a reasonable price. The Flex 5 offers a great balance between performance, premium aesthetics, battery life, and value for money. It’s a good choice for general tasks like word processing, surfing, watching videos and some light gaming. Students will love the solid battery life and note-taking features. It will be able to do basic photo editing tasks, but it may not be suited for professional editing. Because of the dim display, it may not be ideal for outdoor use (in direct sunlight). The Flex 5 is a great deal for the price.
